Micro Chapbooks

We’d love a taste of your most luscious work.

We look for evocative micros loaded with vivid image or sound, voices full of fierce attitude or lyric quality. We prefer free verse poems, adore prose poems, and will consider both lyric and narrative. We welcome micro fictions that light up a small page. Don’t be afraid to experiment.

Guidelines

We read tiny offerings of poetry & prose July 1 – August 1.

8 to 10 pages (multiple short pieces or one or two long poems)

8 to 10 pages of micro-prose (no more than 150 words each)

Pieces should be linked in some way (theme, voice, image, place, etc).

We’ll produce each chapbook in a handbound open edition. We may also release a special edition with hand altered covers, but the exact format will be determined at press time. (We’re also toying with the idea of sculptural covers.) For samples of our work, please see the current catalog: Porkbelly Press at Wicked Little Heart.

All manuscripts should include:

  • dedication (if applicable)
  • 8-10 pages of poetry &/or prose
  • acknowledgements
  • biographical statement (as whimsical or serious as you like)

No table of contents or page numbers are necessary. (We’ll just delete them anyway.)

Garamond is our preferred font. Times New Roman will do in a pinch.

Forthcoming & Released Micro Chaps

These books have been accepted to our micro chapbook line. We planned, originally, to publish only 5 micro chaps in this first line of shorts, but the diversity in voice forced us to take on more books (happily!).

  2. beautiful chapbooks! I can’t wait until July to submit my manuscript! thanks for being an awesome press 🙂

  3. Is it safe for me to assume that you are reading “micro” submissions right now?

  4. I’m a bit confused about the word count for micro fiction. This page says no more than 150, but submission page says no more than 75. Please advise. Thanks!

  5. Hello!
Submissions are indeed open until the 8th this time around, correct?

    Thank you!
